Incubator monitor

Note: We do move the sensors around sometimes without updating the names on the charts, so don't use this as definitive evidence of the accuracy (or not) of a particular model or style of incubator

The hatchers/incubators:

  • Rcom An Rcom-20. This has fully automated temperature and humidity control. It also has a moving plate turner. Nominally 20 chicken egg, it is currently setup with the tray for 10 larger eggs. The temperature in the Rcom sometimes has a slightly square wave waveform on an hourly cycle matching when the turner plate moves from one side to the other

  • Janoel This is a much copied incubator, typically square with a yellow lid that has four clear portholes. Nominally 48 chicken egg capacity, we have it configured for manual turn of larger eggs (no automatic turner). It has automatic temperature control but humidity is manually adjusted either through water in channels or in a flat dish

  • Yellow clone (YC) A no-name Janoel style clone. This one has clear sides and is generally thinner construction which results in poor heat retention. It has automatic temperature control but humidity is manually adjusted either through water in channels or in a flat dish

  • Styro 4250 A styrofoam incubator. This one is a 'Farm Innovators' brand with a large top window. It has automatic temperature control but humidity is manually adjusted either through water in channels or in a flat dish. This one exhibits large temperature differentials (up to 3.0C) from side to side so no amount of adjusting gets a good temp everywhere :-( Suspect the built in fan is not circulating the air enough. Currently in use as a hatcher
